Not in real physical life okay?? LOL! What I meant was in the rankings and votes. Would you believe that David Cook had a humongous 48.1% of the votes?? While David Archuleta only got a measly 18.7%?? Guys, we got to step up in the voting okay?? Don’t think “I won’t vote coz plenty others are voting for David Archuleta already” — NOT! As you can see, the “Billie Jean” singer is way ahead of your darling Archie. Boohoo! And we got another situation coz it seems Aussie Michael Johns, who jumped to the number 3 spot with 11.1% this week, may be sneaking up on them. Gahhh! We really have to step up in voting next week. I hope David Archuleta has something great up his sleeve! Here’s the complete American Idol rankings last week:
48.1% David Cook
18.7% David Archuleta
11.1% Michael Johns
9.2% Brooke White
6.1% Carly Smithson
4.2% Jason Castro
1.1% Kristy Lee Cook
0.8% Ramiele Malubay
0.6% Syesha Mercado
Donny who? In case you don’t know him, he’s also another nice, clean-cut Mormon boy from Utah who suddenly found himself a teen idol with a big singing career and thousands of girls screaming his name. Yup, just like our dear David Archuleta! So Donny definitely knows something about what our beloved singer is going through right now. The 50-year old performer shared, “I just talked to David Archuleta a couple of days ago. I think that he can have an amazing career. It’s an exciting ride that he’s going on.”
Responding to a question from the Deseret Morning News (he was on a conference call with various media outfits), Donny Osmond said he would advise David Archuleta to make sure he takes full advantage of the experience. He said, “It’s just the nature of the game of ‘Idol’ for that kind of enthusiasm and that kind of adulation to take place. But you’ve got to ride that wave as long as possible and then reinvent yourself — continually re-inventing yourself.” You hear that Archie?? =)
UH-OH! If there’s anything that gives good trends in this world, it’s the gambling *cough* odds business. And according to them, David Archuleta is slipping while David Cook is gaining. Oddsmakers at online wagering giant Bodoglife.com still show the teen sensation as the man to beat with 11/10 odds (pay you $11 on a $10 bet), but if you’ve been following the odds since the beginning, you’ll see that he is slipping. And David Archuleta is not alone — Carly Smithson (who was one time the best of the females) has slipped with 12/1 odds of winning. She slips in third place after Brook White at 9/1 winning odds. Aussie rocker David Cook, on the other hand, is right behind David Archuleta. He is at 5/2 odds to win. Here are the winning odds on all American Idol contestants chances of winning –
David Archuleta 11/10
David Cook 5/2
Brooke White 9/1
Michael Johns 11/1
Carly Smithson 12/1
Syesha Mercado 12/1
Jason Castro 15/1
Ramiele Malubay 25/1
Chikeze 35/1
Kristy Lee Cook 100/1
Or rather, his company and friends in Utah did. Jeff Archuleta is the owner of Arch Consulting Group, a VAR in Salt Lake City, and the much-maligned father of David Archuleta. Friends of the Archuletas contacted by ChannelWeb said that the father and son have been surprised by stories on TMZ.com calling Jeff an evil stage dad and accusing him of yelling at David until he cried during one week’s rehearsals. A source close to the family said that Jeff is “very involved in David’s life and a very caring father … Why would he be yelling and screaming at David Archuleta when he has been doing so well? It doesn’t make sense.”
The source further added that Jeff has turned the day-to-day operations of his company over to staff while Archie will be competing in America Idol. The big question, has David Archuleta’s fame resulted in any residuals for Arch Consulting Group? “We have had some phone calls about it, but it hasn’t really changed the business,” one employee said. “Mostly customers already know what’s going on and call to wish David well.”
If Tuesday night’s performances were any indication, the seventh season of American Idol might boil down to a battle between two Davids. David Archuleta, the forever favorite (the favored one ever since AI began), has his loads of tweens and teens voting for him. A lousy performance from him doesn’t bode bad news for his votes — he WILL always get it. David Cook, on the other hand, started on the bottom heap and has been improving steadily, gathering hardcore fans along the way. He looks good and he sings well too. And in the most recent AI episode, David Cook clearly bested David Archuleta. While the latter was very boring with his unknown “You’re the Voice”, the former ripped through “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson (rock arrangement set down by Chris Cornell) and it was superb!! Still, I wouldn’t be surprised if David Archuleta got more votes than David Cook. That’s just the way the world turns in AI and teen fans.. Hehe!
Yeah, you’re not the only one wondering where the teen sensation got the song he sang yesterday night.. If you believe what Simon Cowell insinuated, it was David Archuleta’s dad that chose his “song from birth year”. But, according to MTV, Archie said he chose the obscure “You’re the Voice” because he totally loves Australian singer John Farnham. Yeah, Farnham who?? Apparently he’s very big Down Under and holds the highest selling album there.
Anyway, David Archuleta shared, “It’s one of my all-time favorite songs [”You’re the Voice”] … everything about it is just so great — the words and the music. I love it so much. So I thought it would be great to sing it.” David Archuleta also added that despite Simon’s insinuations to the otherwise, he DID pick the song himself =) “You’re the Voice” is from an album called River of Love from acclaimed producer David Foster, featuring vocalist Jeff Pescetto. It was originally sung in 1986 by Archie’s fave John Farnham.
