If Tuesday night’s performances were any indication, the seventh season of American Idol might boil down to a battle between two Davids. David Archuleta, the forever favorite (the favored one ever since AI began), has his loads of tweens and teens voting for him. A lousy performance from him doesn’t bode bad news for his votes — he WILL always get it. David Cook, on the other hand, started on the bottom heap and has been improving steadily, gathering hardcore fans along the way. He looks good and he sings well too. And in the most recent AI episode, David Cook clearly bested David Archuleta. While the latter was very boring with his unknown “You’re the Voice”, the former ripped through “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson (rock arrangement set down by Chris Cornell) and it was superb!! Still, I wouldn’t be surprised if David Archuleta got more votes than David Cook. That’s just the way the world turns in AI and teen fans.. Hehe!
Yeah, you’re not the only one wondering where the teen sensation got the song he sang yesterday night.. If you believe what Simon Cowell insinuated, it was David Archuleta’s dad that chose his “song from birth year”. But, according to MTV, Archie said he chose the obscure “You’re the Voice” because he totally loves Australian singer John Farnham. Yeah, Farnham who?? Apparently he’s very big Down Under and holds the highest selling album there.
Anyway, David Archuleta shared, “It’s one of my all-time favorite songs [”You’re the Voice”] … everything about it is just so great — the words and the music. I love it so much. So I thought it would be great to sing it.” David Archuleta also added that despite Simon’s insinuations to the otherwise, he DID pick the song himself =) “You’re the Voice” is from an album called River of Love from acclaimed producer David Foster, featuring vocalist Jeff Pescetto. It was originally sung in 1986 by Archie’s fave John Farnham.
“American Idol” judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul told MTV.com that proclaiming David Archuleta as this season’s winner is a bit premature. Not so fast, they cautioned. Things aren’t over yet — not by a long shot. And if you think you had the competition figured out by now, well, you haven’t seen anything yet, the two judges further added. Here’s what the affable Randy Jackson has to say about David Archuleta:
“He’s in the leader’s role right now, for sure, but also there are some other talented boys too. Jason Castro did [Leonard Cohen’s] ‘Hallelujah,’ last week. There’s David Cook too. And on the girls’ side, there’s Carly [Smithson], there’s Brooke [White]. They’re coming on. It’s too early to tell. You got to keep an open mind, America.”
Randy’s message, I’m sure, will not be heard by the teens — they only have David Archuleta in their hearts and minds. It’s already closed to others, sorry! Hehe!
And we hope it’s gonna be David Archuleta! =) Last March 20, American Idol judges Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson attended the Details magazine Mavericks party at a private Beverly Hills estate, and the Dish Rag was able to talk to them. Simon even said that David Archuleta is in his top three! Woohoo! Here’s a snippet of their interview with Dish Rag –
Dish Rag: You’ve both mentioned that you think a guy is going to win this season. Why?
Randy: I think the boys are stronger and more interesting than the girls this year.
Simon: Yeah, I agree.
Randy: It’s different every year. It just depends what comes out
DR: So what are your picks, your favorites?
Simon: Top three: David Archuleta. Jason Castro. Brooke or Ramiele Malubay.
DR: What is it about each one of them that makes them stand out?
Simon: Popularity.
Randy: Popularity and they also rule in consistency. The talent is always there.
WHEW! After his snafus the other week, Archie didn’t forget the lyrics this time. Guess he learned a HUGE lesson from that mistake. Anyhoo, David Archuleta sang “The Long and Winding Road” this time around and it was a huge success! Even the American Idol judges seem to think so =) This is what MTV has to say about David Archuleta’s latest performance:
Mr. Archuperfect is back, making America’s ears (and, uh, loins?) tingle with glee. No lyric flubs to report, although we did get to see a clip from last week’s mess again, thanks to the evil “Idol” producers who included it in David’s preperformance package … But all memories of Davidgate were flushed out of my brain as soon as the teen started his pitch-perfect rendition of “The Long and Winding Road,” although, like the Beatles’ legendary concert at Shea Stadium, it was hard to hear most of it over the constant screams from the audience.
Hehe! If I were there watching David Archuleta perform live, I would have scream my lungs out too! Go for gold Archie! =)
OMG I LOVE DAVID HE IS MY IDOL:wink:
I LOVE YOU DAVID:blush:
